IT Degree Programs

Colorado Technical University offers traditional and/or online IT degree programs for students of all levels, and our bachelor’s and online master’s in information technology programs are offered in various concentrations, so that you can further tailor your studies to your interests and aspirations.

Master’s Degree in Information Technology

Those looking to expand their knowledge and perhaps pursue more advanced career paths in the IT sector can opt to study information technology online or on-campus through our Master of Science in Information Technology program. Core classes include: Computer Systems Security Foundations, Enterprise Systems Architecture, Enterprise Data Management, Networking and Telecommunications, Strategic Management in Dynamic Environments, and Project Management Processes in Organizations. CTU offers the on-campus/online master’s in information technology degree program in a general track and two concentrations: network management and security management.

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology

Computer systems analysts, database administrators, information security analysts, and network and computer systems administrators are just some of the career paths that a bachelor’s degree in IT may help you prepare for. Core courses for CTU’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program cover key IT topics such as UNIX, networking, and database systems fundamentals; introductions to computer security, website development, project management, operating systems, and programming logic; IT architectures; and more. Students may opt to study information technology online or on-campus for both the general track and concentrations in network management and security, while a concentration in software systems engineering is offered as online IT bachelor’s degree option only.

Associate Degree in Information Technology

CTU’s Associate of Science in Information Technology program is designed to provide students with fundamental IT knowledge, and it can also serve as the first step toward earning a bachelor’s degree. This associate degree program can help students prepare to pursue entry-level opportunities within the IT sector, such as computer support specialists. Because the first two years of this program align with CTU’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program, students who decide to continue toward earning a bachelor’s degree can experience a more seamless transition from one undergraduate program to the next. The ASIT degree cannot be pursued in an online IT associate’s degree program attendance format but is instead offered at both our Colorado Springs and Aurora (Denver) campuses.

CTU Admissions Overview

As part of the admissions process, proof of high school graduation (i.e., high school diploma or transcripts) or its equivalency (i.e., GED) must be submitted for undergraduate degree programs. For master’s programs, official transcripts verifying completion of an accredited baccalaureate degree must be provided. Further, prospective students are required to participate in an admissions interview and submit an online application. However, no SAT, no GMAT, no GRE, or any other standardized test is required for Colorado Technical University’s degree programs. Complete details can be found in the University Catalog.

Accreditations and Awards

Colorado Technical University is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (www.hlcommission.org)and has received programmatic accreditations from a number of recognized accrediting agencies.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked our online degree programs among its 2023 "Best Of" rankings:*

Save Time by Earning Credit for What You Already Know

At CTU, associate degree programs can typically be completed in 24 months, bachelor’s degrees in 48, and master’s degrees in 18, but students may be able to complete their on-campus/online bachelor of IT program up to 30 percent faster by “testing out” of classes through passing CTU Fast Track™ exams4—these exams are part of a prior learning assessment program that is designed to test your knowledge of key course objectives. Active military members and veterans may be able to convert their military experience into course credit that applies toward the completion of their selected degree program.2 Submission of a successful Experiential Learning Portfolio (ELP) is yet another way to earn course credit to help you graduate sooner2 (an ELP demonstrates how prior work experience meets the objectives of a particular course). CTU also accepts the transferring-in of credits from other accredited institutions of higher learning, up to 75 percent of a degree program’s total credit-hour requirements.2 Successful completion of online IT certificate programs or other professional certifications as well as scoring well on various standardized tests (i.e., Advanced Placement (AP), CLEP, and DSST exams) could further reduce the number of classes required to earn your degree.

Save on Tuition

CTU Fast Track™ exams, prior learning, work/life experience, and certificate programs are all great ways to save on tuition because they can help reduce the number of courses you need to take to complete your degree program. But there are other ways to save, too.

Many students may be eligible for different types of financial aid, including scholarships and grants, that can help reduce out-of-pocket costs.5 A CTU Admissions Advisor can assist in determining your eligibility for a Corporate Alliances Grant, and your HR manager should be able to assist in determining your company’s tuition reimbursement policies. And all students are encouraged to start investigating their eligibility for federal financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Check out our tuition and graduation date calculator, which can help you see the estimated cost of your desired CTU degree program and your anticipated graduation date based on the information you provide.
